About Anna
One Velvet Morning photography in Christchurch

Hi, I'm Anna, the Christchurch photographer behind One Velvet Morning.
Some of you may remember me as Pixie Rouge Photography.

For over 15 years, I've been documenting people and their stories across New Zealand, Australia and Bali. From weddings and newborn babies to growing families, creative businesses and life's quiet in between moments, photography has been the thread connecting it all.

My journey behind the camera has taken me into forests, beaches, mountains, hospital rooms, family homes and bustling dance floors. For two years, I volunteered photographing premature babies and their families in the NICU at Melbourne's Royal Women's Hospital, creating images for parents during some of the most emotional and uncertain days of their lives. It remains some of the most meaningful work I've ever done.

Photography has never been about perfect poses or curated versions of life. It's about connection. It's about preserving the feeling of a moment before it disappears and creating photographs that become more meaningful with time.

My style is natural, nostalgic and story-led. I'm drawn to golden light, moody shadows, wild places, genuine connection and the beautifully imperfect moments that often become our most treasured memories. Whether I'm photographing a wedding, a newborn curled up in their parents' arms, a family exploring the forest together, or a passionate business owner building something they love, I'm always looking for the feeling behind the moment.

The video below was filmed during one of my Winter Woodland Sessions and perfectly captures the way I love to work. Less posing, more exploring. Less perfection, more connection in nature.

When I'm not behind the camera, you'll usually find me op-shopping, chasing beautiful light, singing badly in the car, or convincing myself I absolutely need another vintage lamp.

Mostly, I just love people and the strange, beautiful ways we find each other, build our lives, and create stories worth remembering.

Many people also know me from She Hunts Op Shops, where I share a love of secondhand treasures, slow living and finding beauty in the everyday. In many ways, it's the same thing that draws me to photography: stories, connection, and the magic hidden in ordinary moments.

Beyond the photographs, you'll find more of my adventures, stories and curious wanderings throughout this website. Wander through my Journal, explore She Hunts Op Shops, browse podcasts, press and features, read Kind Words from past clients, and discover the story behind the NICU work that continues to hold a special place in my heart.
